FLOODINGS
|
CONSEQUENCES
In France and in many countries, floods are extreme
climate events that cause the most damage. It is an
obstacle to the economy (agriculture, transport ...).
In mountainous regions the effects of heavy rains
are often compounded by mudflows and landslides, especially
on dry soils and without trees as the water absorption
capacity is limited, since they were scorched by the
sun or the winter frosts.

The damage can be very high,
and in addition, the risk of drowning exists especially when
it is crossed upon arrival of the flood wave. During major
flood flows can be so violent that the walls are crumbling
and cars, trees and even houses are washed away and destroyed
or take away everything in their path (bridges, dams ...).
The damage is considerable and many people are often affected.
Many buildings (houses, factories,
companies ...) are located in flood prone areas or mudflows
can occur. Concrete and asphalt have replaced the fields that
constitute the expansion of water in natural areas. All these
habitats are threatened by climatic anger which can occur
sooner or later.
On 03/04/1930, in France in
Montauban Tarn river made 10.000
victims, 3.000 houses were destroyed,
11 major bridges were washed away .... and the water is mounted
17 meters in 24 hours with heights submersion of 7 meters
in the city. This was the most important of the 20th century
in France.

Flooding of the Somme in 2001 for
over a month. Some areas of Abbeville
drowned in two meters of water.
